Saltzbeeerrrgh !
Visited Saltzburg today and we both were looking forward to it - what a let down! Easy enough to get into and really high tech car park which was carved into the rock - made us think we were going to enjoy our day with such a good start.
The town is merely a Mozart obsessed place full of churches on every corner. The prices are sky high too! Two coffees = 6 euros and the car park cost us 11 euros - the highest fee yet! We wouldn't mind so much if there was something about the place but we had difficulty filling our day with things to do.
We didn't bother visiting the castle or convent on the top of the hill as it looked so plain and ineffectual from the town. We are churched out by now so they didn't particularly attract us either. We went to some gardens - where Maria von Trapp took the children in Sound of Music and sang Do Re Mi... they play that film down a lot here as they are embarrassed by it. On the other hand there are Mozart concerts in every other building at all times of the day and night - plus museums to see him and his house where he lived until he was 17 years old. Ok - thats Mozart then - in our opinion he made the right choice to leave Saltzburg then and go to Vienna. We totally agree with his decision.
Even McD's didn't have a good enough signal for the wifi.
The weather held though and the temperature reached a nice 22c but without the sun, making the walking around very pleasant.
So back to the campsite to cook a meal - we found some gorgeous potatoes yesterday that actually taste of potato - so we will go and eat some more today. That will be more enjoyable than Saltzburg. A few pics attached for you to see what it is like - these are nice ones but we had to search hard to find some nice shots. I think you have picked up the fact that we didn't really take to the place.
