The Hills are Alive with the ......
No music but it is very much Sound of Music country here.
Drove through the pouring rain today after changing an indicator bulb on the caravan. Of course we didn't realise it was broken until we hitched Essie up to leave the camp and checked all lights. So I held the umbrella over Steve and the light cluster while he changed the bulb - why does it always rain when things like that happen? A quick repair job and we set off along the motorway. An uneventful journey and as we progressed westward the view became more dramatic with bigger and more pointed hills, clad in a dense coniferous woodland. As it was raining the clouds hung over the mountain tops making them look even prettier. We drove through the Austrian version of the Lake District which was stunning and eventually reached our destination. Our campsite is in Reit im Winkl and there is only one other caravan on the area of the site that we chose to park Essie and he's a retired Politzei (German traffic cop) - how do we do it? The view from the caravan is 360 degrees of mountainside - beautiful!
The town itself is a chocolate box affair with large wooden chalet type houses, shops and guesthouses, all with lots of window boxes on their verandahs making them look so pretty. They also have murals on the walls - mostly of nature themes and the people are obviously very proud of their town - it is spotless. We had a walk around the town to explore a bit and found an internet cafe - thats where we spent an hour to write the blog and exchange a few emails. We also looked on ipass to find out where the wifi hotspots are and checked our bank account. Money is coming out rather quickly - but boy are we enjoying spending it!
After a restock of food at the local supermarket we retired back to our little summer palace and prepared dinner - a chicken curry as the weather was wet and cooler. Then another episode of Rome and the day was over for us. We will see what the weather brings tomorrow before we decided what to do.
