Red sky at night - shepherds downpour
There was a red sky last night and we took that as a sign of sunshine today. Wrong! It rained from about 9pm onwards, all through the night and until about 10am this morning. Not that it bothered us much - after the blog last night we took a bottle round to Maggie and Alan, staying on the same site as us - and we talked and we talked.... until we finally left them in the early hours. Then we had to have a good lie in to catch up on our beauty sleep. So much so that the rain had gone by the time we had breakfasted and showered.
After seeing some good offers on wine etc at the supermarket yesterday we decided to take the car this morning and stock up. We have bought 5 ltr glass carafes of wine for 4euros each. And bottles of 2004 Barolo for 10euros each - Graham are you reading this and getting envious? I was introduced to a creamed lemon drink by Maggie last night which was delicious - so we bought a few bottles of that too. It is 17.5% proof but you would never know when you drink it.
After shopping we decided to do a few jobs around the caravan, have lunch, then explore some more on the bikes. As I explained in the last blog we are situated between two lakes and so we decided to ride around one of them. The scenery is beautiful here - but I get embarrassed about saying that so much. What we didn't take into consideration is that the gradient at the northern end of the lake reaches 620 mtrs high - that was one hell of a climb - pushing the bikes too, not riding them. The ride down was great though. Part of the ride took us through a forest with views down from the precipice to the lake below, another part went through orchards with lots of cherry trees in - they were literally falling on the ground. Maggie and Alan told us last night that their German neighbour had caught 13 trout in that lake the other day and he invited them to spend the evening feasting with them on barbecued fish.
A quiet read and an apperitif was needed when we arrived back at camp in the hot, hot sun. After this blog we are going to feast on our own fish - caught at the supermarket this morning - we think its swordfish but as we are unsure of the language we can't be sure - it looks good though.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUISE - that will make you very embarrassed I'm sure my darling. That's my daughter who has a birthday today - I won't give your age away but we both hope you have had a wonderful day. Thank you for your pictures of the party and we both send our love.
Tomorrow we are off to Trento - a nearby historic town, to explore and have our Sunday lunch. We hope again that the sun shines on us and that we have a good day.
