Innsbruck in the Tyrol
Last night we decided that we enjoyed sunshine and hot weather more than cold and wet weather - that is good considering we are moving to Cyprus. But at present the weather is suitable for creating lush greenery all around - yes I mean rain! Beautiful it is, with stunning scenery everywhere you look, but it is raining! Last night we went to bed with a stream running beside the campsite over lots of stones. This morning it was a gushing torrent hiding all the stones and boulders. If we were more adventurous we would have set off for some white water rafting. As we are not that way inclined and we are getting a bit concerned about our trench foot problem we thought we would move on.
All through the night the rain hammered on the caravan roof. The sound even broke through my ear plugs. After exploring everything in the vicinity of Reit im Winkl we were short of things to do in the wet weather and thought a change of scenery would do us good.
When we started our journey from the camp we switched on the radio to hear Tina Turner singing "I can't stand the rain" - very apt.
Off we went to Innsbruck, very aware of the fact that there were major football matches taking place over the next two weeks or more. We phoned the next campsite who told us that we could only spend tonight with them as 2500 Swedish football fans are expected tomorrow to attend the matches. Would you like to share a campsite with them after being at a football match all day and boozing all night? No way! So we were happy to accept the offer of one night with the chance of researching the internet on their wifi facility to find another camp to move on to.
The drive to Innsbruck was uneventful and the campsite easy to find. When we arrived we were very impressed with the location - a beautiful site surrounded by steep mountains and greenery. The staff were very helpful and the wifi is available 24/7 so we can use the internet without any time restrictions within the caravan - great.
As we usually celebrate weekly on our journey with a Sunday lunch we realised that tomorrow we would be evicted and that luxury would be denied us. So we moved Sunday forward a day and decided to eat at the campsite restaurantthis evening. Having checked it out and had the menu translated for us, we realised that the food on offer was too good to be resisted. So we ate a lovely meal there. Steve had pork medallions in a cream and gorgonzola sauce with their speciality noodles and I had a mixed grill with chips and ratatouille. Then Steve just had to have a dessert of an ice cream filled crepe with a chocolate sauce and cream. I helped him out with that of course. All that with a good quality bottle of red wine and two coffees came to roughly £50 - not at all bad we think. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff very welcoming and friendly.
So back to the caravan where we can catch up on a lot of internet stuff that we have not had time to do previously. We can research the future camp sites and get driving directions. We can also catch up on the news back in the UK and over the world - not that much of it applies to us any more.
A good day in all - we have seen more places, met more people and progressed with our journey. Only a few pics again for this blog - all of the sites from the caravan, wonderful though they are
And now we can hear some of the fans already on the camp commnce their ritual chanting and their attempts to restructure the campsite are in place already. Men in tight yellow football shirts, exposing too much of a well formed beer belly just does not do it for me. I think we will stay in Essie and have a good nights sleep - thanks to the ear plugs.......and as we doze off we can hear some distant call of Ingerland Ingerland - what do they mean????
