Into Germany - Wunderbar

Because the Germany camp site had no internet facilities we are getting behind with our blog entries. That is not good - so we will input individual blogs for each day since we left the last campsite so that every detail is in there. Now we have internet again so we need to catch up.... let the story continue..
Saturday - May 10th
We said our goodbyes to fellow caravanners in Gulpen and set off on our drive into Germany which was very straightforward. Either the roads are getting better or we are improving - or a bit of both. We were both surprised and very pleased with the scale of the coountryside around us as we entered Germany. The forestation is immense and cannot possibly be captured on film to do it justice. Huge swathes of steep hillside covered in every shade of green you can imagine - then some. As far as the eye can see as well - it takes your breath away. Overhead we have seen many birds of prey circling to do whatever they need to do - some huge and they really touch you with their splendour.

So after this breathtaking drive we arrived in Waxweiler, near the borders of Belgium and Luxembourg to find our site overlooking lush woodlands and set in a river valley with orchards all around us. An open air lido is adjacent to the campsite with free entry for us and we used it to lay out on the grass and enjoy the late afternoon sunshine. First though we drove into the village and had a toasted sandwich and beer at the local hostelry surrounded by bikers en route to somewhere. Conversation was difficult as there are few Brits around here and they do not speak much English - sign language manages well though. The roads are brilliant for bikers around here - take note Graham. As we sat out on the balcony with a beer we watched an eagle circling being fought off by smaller birds who were obviously protecting their young. It was awesome. After a sandwich and the beer we filled up with diesel -it is as expensive as the UK here but it was quite a bit cheaper in Holland. Then we stocked up with provisions at the local supermarket- expensive again and not that good a quality. The weather has been perfect so far though - mid to upper 20s and constant sunshine.

In the evening, after a lovely meal in the caravan we invited other people adjacent to us to play boules and we had a great time with Crystal, Willem and Maxim from Begium and Jon and Agnes from Holland. We played until light stopped play and laughed a lot - boys versus girls so you can imagine the rivalry. A good nights sleep followed.
