Auto Kaput
13th May and time to move on from our present campsite after saying our goodbyes to Agnes and Jon - our neighbours short term. They are going back to their home in Holland tomorrow.
En route in Prum we had seen a VW dealer and garage and as a warning light had appeared on the dashboard we decided to have it checked out. It was to do with the ESP sensor for those of you who are interested. The people at the dealership were very kind and courteous and agreed to look at it for us. We took the opportunity to have a walk around the village and have a spot of lunch at a local cafe. Steve had to unhitch the caravan and leave it in a layby but the guys just took the car into the garage with the bikes on top - we felt just a little anxious in case they forgot about them but all was well.
They told us that the car does need a new part but it is safe to drive until we have it sorted out. They would have to order it and we had no time to wait about. When we land somewhere else in Germany for a few days we can arrange that. The car is still in warranty so we want to get it repaired before September when the warranty expires.
After another smooth journey through the most spectacular scenery you can imagine we arrived at Pfaltzfelt near to Koblenz to book into the next campsite. I suppose we have chosen the best time of year to travel for scenery - all the leaves are fresh and very green and the fields are full of bright yellow oilseed rape and there is lots of apple blossom and almond blossom about. There is also lots of wildlife - big and small. The birdsong is ear shattering and there are millions are insects on the windscreen.
After booking into another well equipped and picturesque campsite set in between lots of trees and fields and with a large fishing lake in it too - must use that! - we went to the local Aldi for provisions. Wow is it cheap here!! We got some fabulous Rioja for les than 2 euros and also some Australian red for even less than the Rioja - we will definitely stock up for the trip before we leave from here. We bought some fantastic asparagus too - the best I have tasted for many a year and some lovely Alaskan red salmon - as well as lots of other things to try. The fruit was gorgeous so we had strawberries and blueberries, pears and apples - we could have bought the shop it was so good.
We settled in nicely at the campsite and had a chilli con carne with strawberries and cream to follow - the German for cream is slagroom - strange eh??
We had not had internet facilites for a few days so we went to the local McDonalds where there is free wifi for an hour to try and catch up. We joined T Mobile there too which is the provider for the area and wrote one blog and read some emails. We even managed to talk with Louise, my daughter, via Skype which was wonderful. Her voice was so clear - just the same as in the UK - what a wonderful facility. The hotspot on the camp site can now be used with T Mobile too so I can write some more blogs there later.
After all the driving and shopping we settled down to watch another episode of Rome and then had a good nights sleep.
